Wellness Wednesdays: Cold Showers

Okay, I have to admit on this one I just can't bring myself to do it. I have a rule that I don't really recommend anything unless I have tried it myself. This goes for just about every product or practice I talk about with anyone and every health hack I have ever written about or shared. BUT, this one... I just can't bring myself to do yet. 

 

When I wake up in the morning the last thing I want to do, is to jump in a cold shower. However, there are some great benefits and I am working up the nerve to try it. 

 

Benefits of a cold shower:

  1. Improve Circulation

  2. Increase Metabolism

  3. Reduce Stress

  4. Tighten Pores

  5. Boost Immunity

  6. Increase Alertness

  7. Speed Workout Recovery

  8. And More. 

 

The more I read about taking a cold shower the better it sounds. Right up until the point where I am about to flip that water over from a comfortable warm temperature to a polar bear blast. 

 

Here are a few tips I have read, on how to build up the willpower to take advantage of these benefits:

 

  1. Alternate between hot and cold water, a technique known as the “Scottish Shower.”

  2. In classic James Bond style, you can switch over to cold water for the last couple of minutes.

  3. Make it "fun" by turning it into an experiment. LOL... Okay. They say to try it for 1 minute on the first day and see how you feel. By day 3 work up to 3 minutes. (Experiment. yes... fun.. well I'm not so sure about that)

 

The recommended time to get the benefits, is at least 3 minutes.
