Plant-Based Nutrition

Plant-Based Nutrition

You may be thinking this week's Wellness Wednesday is going to get into the debate of plants vs. meat.. the vegan vs. carnivore. But, that's not really what I had in mind.

What I really want to chat about is the benefits of whole food plant-based synergy. The concept of keeping together what was provided together by nature. You have seen this with out primary product Haelan 951. We use the whole soybean and fermentation to unlock the synergy that each phytonutrient does to compliment the others.

Another way to look at this is teamwork. On a good team each player does not just go off on their own and try to win the game by themselves. Each player has a specialty that compliments the others. I'm a big hockey fan so taking this concept to the extreme would be like having a team of all goalies. This would be a really silly game to watch.

When thinking about nutrition, I like to remind myself of this concept. When we get our nutrients from whole food sources we get a full spectrum of compounds that work together. But, on the other side, if we extract high concentrations of various compounds and consume these it may lead to imbalance if we are not careful. Now, I am not saying there is no place for this but it is wise to keep things in balance.

Sometimes it may not be available to get to get the nutrition we need from food and supplementation may be required. This is where I have looked to get my supplements from whole food plant-based sources. These supplements often contain many of the complimentary compounds by using the whole source.

So, as you are thinking about your nutrition, keep in mind that things may be together for a reason and they often work together in synergy to provide greater benefit.

It's like the old saying goes, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Until next time. Make good choices and stay healthy! 😀
